The Passing of Mr. Erik Bent Nielsen
It is with sadness that Ski Jumping Canada recognizes the passing of one of its long time volunteers Mr. Erik Nielsen. Erik passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the age of 85. Our condolences go out to his wife Ada and the family.
Erik emigrated with his first wife Betty in the late 1940’s.They arrived in Calgary where Erik made a living as a carpenter. He and Betty were long time volunteers with COP and Ski Jumping which Erik continued after Betty’s death in 2003.One of the highlights in Erik’s experience with the sport was when he was nominated, and went on to proudly carry the Olympic Torch in 2010.
Erik will be fondly remembered by many in the Ski Jumping community and his many contributions to the sport will be long remembered.
