Respect and Consideration Policy
NTC operates on the basis of respect and consideration for others. It is through this respect and consideration for others that individuals, be they athletes, coaches, officials or volunteers, can work together to achieve their collective and individual goals.
At all times, NTC athletes are expected to show respect and consideration for each other, their coach, officials and volunteers. This is required for athletes to achieve their maximum performance in competitions, and for the coach, officials and volunteers to help them do so.
For all NTC training sessions, competitions and training or competition trips, the following policy will be consistently applied to ensure that NTC athletes show respect and consideration for each other, their coach, officials and volunteers:
1. If CODA coach believes an athlete through his speech or behavior, is not showing respect and consideration for others, the coach will immediately remind the athlete about this policy, explain why the athlete’s speech or behavior is unacceptable and request the athlete to stop speaking or behaving in that manner;
2. If in the opinion of the Coach, the athlete does not stop speaking or behaving in that manner, the coach will direct the athlete to leave the training session or competition immediately;
3. as soon as possible, the coach will then contact the Vice Chair High Performance and discuss the situation with him/her;
4. If the situation occurs away from the athlete’s home, and if agreed by the coach and the Vice Chair, High Performance, the coach will direct the athlete to return to his home as soon as possible, The coach will provide reasonable assistance so that the athlete can return to his home in a expeditious and safe manner;
5. the coach will write a report on the incident, describing the circumstances leading up to it and the actions taken to apply this policy. This report will be forwarded to the Vice Chair, High Performance and the Chairman as soon as possible after the incident;
6. as soon as possible after the report is forwarded, the Chairman will convene a meeting of the Executive Committee to review the report and decide what action, if any, should be taken. The athlete, the coach and the Vice Chair, High Performance, will be given the opportunity to address the Executive Committee regarding the incident;
7. based on the report, representations and discussion, the Executive Committee will decide on the appropriate action to be taken. The action may include:
- requiring the athlete to reimburse Nordic Combined Ski Canada for any extra expenses incurred in having the athlete return to his home early from the training or competition site, and
- banning the athlete from further training or competition for a period of time to be decided by the committee. The committee’s decision will be final
This policy will be applied consistently to all NTC athletes irrespective of any individual athlete’s past competitive performance record or future potential.
