Canadian Leapers Enjoy Solid Weekend at Summer Ski Jumping Inter Continental Cup in Norway
TRONDHEIM, Nor.—Two, top-10 finishes were not the results Alex Loutitt was looking for at the Inter Continental Cup this weekend, but the Canadian ski jumping queen will leave Trondheim, Norway with valuable lessons.
After a ninth-place finish on Saturday, the 20-year-old leaper from Calgary flew closer to her first podium of the summer in the unique event. Loutitt produced jumps of 97 and 102 metres in her two attempts Sunday on the 105-metre hill for a total of 230.2 points and seventh place.
Germany’s Katharina Schmid landed on top of the women’s podium Sunday with 251.3 points. Norway’s Elrin Maria Kvandal was second at 243.8, while her teammate, Anna Odine Stroem placed third with a total score of 242.1.
Calgary’s Nicole Maurer continued her progression up the international standings with two solid competitions in Norway. The 24-year-old had two of her top summer leaps, backing up a 22nd place finish on Saturday by finishing 23rd Sunday.
Sitting in 27th spot after her first jump, Maurer climbed four spots up the standings with the 18th-best jump in the final round. She tallied a total of 181.0 points.
The summer jumping events showcase the top ski jumpers on the planet. The competition is performed on an in-run where the tracks are made from porcelain and the grass on the slope is covered with water-soaked plastic.
