Canadian Ski Jumpers Shine at World Cup Finale
LAHTI, Fin.—Canada’s ski jumpers ended their 2024-25 World Cup flight path with a string of solid results at the Lahti Ski Games in Finland.
Alex Loutitt landed on the World Cup podium for the third time this season, taking the bronze on the first day of large hill jumping, Thursday.
Calgary’s ski jumping ace racked up a total of 275.1 points in her two leaps off the HS130-sized hill. Loutitt posted the third-best jumps in both rounds while coverinig distances of 126.5 and 121 metres in her two leaps.
“Happy to be on the podium under the lights here inn Lahti,” said Loutitt. “I enjoyed some long flights, but it is hard to believe the season is already over.”
The 21-year-old struggled to find the medal-winning path to the podium Fwhen heading back to the top of the big hill on Friday, placing 16th with at total of 228.6 points.
Her teammate, Abigail Strate, was there to step up.
The 24-year-old Strate, who recently graduating from graphic design at the Toronto Film School, continued a rock solid back half of the season with a seventh-place finish. Strate (Calgary) was in third place after the first jump of 126.5 metres, but couldn’t hang onto the final spot on the podium in the second round, placing seventh at 260.2.
Strate has consistently landed in the top-15 of the women’s elite ski jumping field since the holiday break. One month removed from her lone podium of the season when she took the bronze in Austria, Strate had a fifth and an 11th-place finish at the World Championships. She was also 11th on Thursday’s rounds of jumps.
Calgary’s Nicole Maurer remained solid to round out the trio of Canucks in the final World Cup of the season. Regulary turning in career-best results since December, Maurer was 26th on Thursday.
Slovenia’s Nika Prevc won the final two events of the season to match three ski jumping records. Prevc claimed her 10th World Cup win in a row and 15th of the season to secure the Crystal Globe with the widest winning margin of 51.5 points.
Loutitt finished 10th in the overall World Cup standings, while Strate was 15th. Maurer placed 28th overall. The Canadian trio finished sixth overall in the Nations Cup standings.
