Background:
Abigail Strate was part of a history-making moment in her Olympic debut at Beijing 2022. She and teammates Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, Alexandria Loutitt, and Matthew Soukup won bronze in the inaugural Olympic mixed team ski jumping event. It was Canada’s first ever Olympic medal in ski jumping.
Feeding off that historic day, Abigail’s future goals extend much further as she aims to be consistently on the World Cup podium, win a Crystal Globe, and individual Olympic and World Championship medals.
She is definitely on the right flight path.
Abigail enjoyed a career-best season in 2022-23 where she consistently placed in the top-10 on the World Cup that included her first podium, taking the bronze medal in Hinterzarten, Germany to go along with three fourth-place finishes. She finished sixth overall on the 2023 Summer Grand Prix with four top-six finishes and two additional leaps into the top-10.
Abigail made her World Cup debut during the 2016-17 season at 15 years old. As a rookie, she competed at the Olympic test event for PyeongChang 2018. She competed at her second senior FIS World Championships in 2023 where she landed in 10th on the normal hill, 15th on the large hill, and sixth in the team event. Her first world champs came in 2021, where Abigail was the top Canadian in both the women’s individual normal hill and large hill events.
Getting into the Sport:
Started ski jumping at age 6 and entered her first international competition at age 10 in Park City, Utah…
Outside Interests:
Abigail is also an artist and a creative at heart. She is studying Graphic Design online at Toronto Film School in Canada, at a pace which is highly accommodating to her lifestyle as a high-performance and international athlete. She enjoys photography and has a special collection of film and digital cameras that she takes on her travels. She also has a knack for video editing and has used this skill to create vlogs, which have become a great hit amongst the international fan base!
When not ski jumping or studying, she enjoys the constant pursuit of a healthy and active lifestyle. She enjoys cooking, running, hiking, mountain biking, and all other types of skiing (especially when she gets to bring her dogs!). Abigail grew up surrounded by animals and always finds herself looking for a dog, cat, or even cow to pet wherever her travels for sport take her. One of her most unique hobbies is beekeeping—she has become known as the “bee” in the ski jumping world and beyond. She has a lucky bee sticker placed on her right ski that reminds her to relax and smile, even in the most intense of competitions.
Odds and Ends:
