Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes Off to a Great Start
Ski Jumping Canadas top Men’s athlete Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes has been posting great results this season. During the summer, Mackenzie scored in the top 30 in two of the three Grand Prix he competed in. His top Grand Prix result this summer was in Zakopane Poland where he came in 18th place, a huge improvement on his qualification jump of 44th. Followed by Hakuba Japan where he posted a 28th, while his teammate Matthew Soukup had one of his best ever results claiming 32nd spot. Mackenzie finished the summer season on a high note with back to back podiums in the Klingenthal Continental Cup in Germany, coming in 3rd on both days. What was even more impressive about his performance was that he jumped a massive 144.5 meters on the second day, the furthest jump that weekend and 4.5 meters past the hill size. What a great way to end a very successful summer!
Following his strong summer, winter has started well. His best result was in the World Cup in Engelberg in Switzerland where he came in 17th place; one of his best results on the World Cup circuit. Mackenzie also broke into the top 30 in Titisee-Neustadt Germany, just squeezing into points. The coveted and prestigious 4-hills tournament Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes also came in 40th his best overall result at the 4 Hills tournament in his career!
Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes is currently in 45th in the World Cup standings but there is lots more to come this season. There is also a lot of ski flying, Mackenzie’s favourite event, to be done starting with Bad Mittendorf in Austria in February, where Mackenzie posted his best result in a World Cup in 9th place in 2014. Then there will be the Raw Air tournament, a series of World Cups in 4 different venues in Norway with the final being held in Vikersund. Vikersund is the biggest ski jump in the World (tied with Planica in Slovenia) where he will be looking to beat the Canadian Record of 221.5 meters he set in 2016. The final event of the season, the Ski Flying World Championships takes place in Planica Slovenia. The world distance record last year happened during this event, so this will be another place where we can expect some far jumps from Mackenzie!
Best of luck for the rest of the season Mackenzie!
